Patron Church of the Transfiguration of the Savior

In Kapsampeli Square, above the old Elementary School building, there is the Patron Church of the Transfiguration of the Savior. This Church was built in 1780 after a special permission from the then Turkish Aga of Tripoli who had visited Kastanitsa and was completely pleased with the hospitality of the residents and their beautiful gifts.
In 1810 and with money from the late Kastanitsiotis Elias Manesis, a dignitary of Catherine the Great, but also from the founding members of the Filiki Eteria, the elaborate wooden iconostasis of Russian style was constructed in Odessa and transferred to Kastanitsa, which still adorns the Holy Church that dominates the Center of the Village today. Along with the iconostasis, at the same time, the two large gilded manuals were donated, which are also in very good condition today. Next to the Church building is Kapsampeli Square, which was rebuilt in 1995 and is one of the most picturesque spots in the village. The view from the square reaches as far as the Argolic Gulf.
