Prastos is the old and historical capital of Tsakonia from the Middle Ages to the pre-revolutionary times. It is 10 km. from Kastanitsa. Built amphitheatrically on a slope of Parnon, at an altitude of 750m. it is a picturesque settlement that charms with its traditional houses, tower houses and churches. It has been declared a traditional settlement.
. Its houses retain the main elements of the local architecture, which is simple and characteristic: arched doorways, narrow windows, decorative doorways, a built staircase with a high arch, roofs made of slate slabs and often with strong elements of defensive and fortified construction. Forests of chestnut and fir trees spread further above the village. Today the village is not inhabited in winter, but on many weekends as well as in summer it comes alive, since many owners, mainly residents of Agios Andreas and Leonidio, maintain their second homes there. The road from Kastanitsa is paved.
